Description
Well, I was looking for this cool photo (ancient) of myself surrounded by a bevy a cute Japanese boys (This photo actually exists! I found it just the other day when I was looking through the 100000s of photos I have.) to send to sadboy for the caricature he's going to draw of me with Mr Parowka (YES!) and lo, a whole baggie of photos fell to the ground! And as I was picking them up, what should my eyes behold but this lovely picture of two cats!
The manekineko is on the left, looking skyward with a slight frown and holding on to the arm of the other cat rather than in a welcoming gesture. I thought this was my cat but it turned out that when the Canadian women who gave it to me was leaving Japan, she had to give it back to her Japanese boyfriend!
Dedicated to my friend and kindred spirit: JaKaSla [link] whose avatar is a manekineko.
This cat is nowhere near the size of the last child-sized one [link] or it's manip [link] by Janice [link] I posted. It's definitely under a foot because the Siamese on the right is a foot tall.
The Siamese is smiling delightfully because he comes from the Smiley Country (officially The Land of a Thousand Smiles!). Made of paper mache, he's travelled with me a fair bit and been gnawed on by actual living cats. Not meant to last forever, he's outside now in the garden patio. I've had him since 1989, my first trip to Thailand.
At the time of the photo, both cats were sitting on top of my free-standing closet, in my apatto in Osaka, Japan. They had to keep out of the way of the cat biting curmudgeon, blue-persian, Morgan Alexander, a real live cat who lives now only in my imagination.
Taken in the early 1990's with an Olympus IS2000 film camera, scanned and fixed up in PSP.
