                                  NAGASAKI FEATURE

Edit: I just found this interesting article "Nagasaki Warns against Nuclear Arms on A-bomb Anniversary" that you may wish to read here [link] .

Back in the years 1989-1996 as some of you may know, I lived in Osaka, Japan and taught English as a second language.

In 1992, one of my friends suggested that we travel by train to Nagasaki to see the famously bombed city as well as to see the nearby town of Unzen which was being bombarded by the volcano of the same name at the time.

So quite some time ago, I scanned some of my photos of the place and always meant to post them here at dA. I've posted them in scraps with little comments but thought I'd show the thumbs here just in case you don't feel like looking at so many pictures. There are also some notes and comments to be found in the postings in case you want more information. Here's the Wikipedia link [link] .

Last Sunday was the 61st anniversary of that bombing. [link] (a good link about Nagasaki.)

The general idea of the nuclear bombing of the Japanese cities was apparently to show Japan (and incidentally the world) the power and might of the atomic bomb and the US and axis powers in general, definitely a case of overkill. It was also supposed to put an end to the idea that using nuclear weapons in war was a "good idea" of any sort at all. Yet, their use persists. To this day, so-called depleted uranium is used in all kinds of weapons. The US has just sold Israel a bunch of "bunker bombs" which are meant to penetrate the surface of the earth with their nuclear strength. People just can't seem to resist fooling around with this shit. And why? Well for starters, the Queen of England's investments depend upon it! And I'm sure there are many other money reasons that require the use of nuclear armaments be continued despite the horrific and more or less endless dangers that are posed to all who come in contact with them!

If you haven't already signed it, please go to Ceasefirecampaign.org and sign the petition requesting a stop to the fighting going on (at least) in Lebanon and Israel at the moment. Many of our friends here at dA are being affected!

Thank you for the pictures of Nagasaki and the link to the cease fire petition. It always amazes me that the two Japanese cities were rebuilt. It seems like the damage would have been too widespread. Argh, the whole thing bugs me, from the bombings during WWII to the world's refusal to disarm. I will add the link to the other site somewhere to my page when it is earlier in the day and I am of sounder mind.

Thanks for the comment and for adding the links to your site. I really appreciate it. To top it off today, I emailed both the US President and the Canadian Prime Minister for all the good it will do. I feel a lot better now though cuz I've been meaning to do that for a long time. Those turds! :lmao:

One of my commentors said he'd love to see Bush in a knife fight with one of the leaders he's in conflict with. Wouldn't that be cool!? What really pisses me off is that both Bush and Harper (Canada's PM) campaigned on the Christian ticket (not that I claim to be one, just brought up that way and fairly knowledgeable on the subject) and they seem to think the Old Testament applies to them too! Duh! No. Thou shalt not kill! ANYTHING!!! Nonetheless, it would be cool to see them have to fight it out instead of allowing them to deploy innocent dupes (soldiers) to kill innocent civilians for them. It really sucks big time! ARG!!!

Argh. I hate history! I want a wonderful future. Please god make people become sane and healthy.
I like kois. Would be nice to have a little hut with a koi pool. I like your photos. They make everything look nice.

Yup, I'm not a big history fan either except when I hear the phrase, "Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it!" If people knew that, would they become sane and healthy?

Koi are probably my favourite fish. They remind me of cats. They're very tame in Japan and will take food directly from your hand. I posted one more koi photo in scraps.

Thanks so much for saying that about my photos! :D

Yes that's it! They are like cats! I mean to go to the koi dealer some 30 minutes drive from here to look at his collection. Haven't been there for months. I love to watch how they gracefully swimm in the pond and come up to the edge as if to say hallo :D
"Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it!" hmmmm some who do repeat history are not that dumb and I bet they do know history :( I think the statement embeds a hidden wish.

I haven't seen a live koi in years but I'm sure there must be some in the city. There's a Japanese garden at the one of the universities...

And you are probably right about the history remark! :D
