The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

I never thought I'd say this cuz I used to hate emoticons!

But YAY! They brought back the Emoticon Legend! The mood legend kinda sucks and doesn't seem to work right!

Then to top off all these unasked for changes, I accidentally, logged myself off the site forgetting that I'd changed my password for some dumb reason a few weeks ago and then forgetting the new password.

Then, it took like an hour for dA to send me an email allowing me to reset a new password. Then for some reason, the system still wouldn't allow me to re-enter my page! Dang! Even though it's way past my bedtime, I panicked and couldn't give up until I got my password back and could re-enter my site. Whoa!

So I just had to get my yayas out and complain about that! Sorry folks and thanks for listening.

In addition, I went out twice tonight after moon rise and still couldn't see hide nor hair of the full moon which will probably be my last chance before the monsoon season sets in. Double dang. Always like seeing that big old thing...

And finally, one little political touch, please please sign this petition at Cease Fire.org [link] for a cease fire in Lebanon, whether you know the issues or not, gunfire and bombs are not going to solve them! Thanks.

Yeah, I noticed that too! A few people were mentioning it. Apparently some people have it back depending on your browser. It seems quite stupid that the new V.5 doesn't work the same in every browser. I think you can still see them in Firefox or something but I don't like it and still use IE. How about you? You've got to wonder who's running this place now and how much they respect the members. Seems to have devolved into a big corporation like any other....dang!

DA's owners have around 1,5 billion subscribers. So they could employ so many programmers as they want... :/
I'm really surprised, that dav5 doesn't work same good as previous version with every brower. Especilly, when we have suddenly maybe few browsers

IE, Firefox, Opera, Maxton... any one more?

1.5 billions subscribers? How did you find that out? Wow, that's incredible! And it's a lot less than the number of submissions. I would never have guessed. How this place has grown since I joined 2 years ago and decided there wasn't enough going on so I left! They're probably cheap like most big companies and only want to employ as few programmers as possible. They could employ as many help desk employees too but it took 2 days to get a response to my last query which was simply a request that they bring back the emoticon legend which has now been brought back anyway! I'm surprised that the new version doesn't work the same with every browser too. I was also surprised to find out that there's an add on tool bar thingie for Firefox (which I don't like). I've never tired Opera. I'd never even heard of Maxton...don't know anymore. Still think they should have announced that there was a new version coming and then started it as a beta. I bet there are tons of complaints!

Yeah, I hate having to find all those passwords but now I belong to so few member sites and I also have Roboform which is supposed to remember all that...which reminds me, I should back up Roboform again along with everything else before my ancient motherboard goes...more computer work to do!
