The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Edit: Still no word from Help but my submit button has returned and I can answer all messages. However when I go to reply to someone's comments, I get a messed up art page so things are still a bit troubled!

As I dislike Firefox overall, I'm not too keen to just have to use it for this one site.... we'll see how it goes.

I'd happily update my gallery blog site at Leonie Gallery [link] and direct you there in the meantime (it has commentability) but I have to go to the beach as much as possible while I'm off work - did I say I started working last week? - before the Pacific Coast Monsoon Season sets in for the winter from Sept until next mid-July. This is the only time we can get our Vitamin D and local fruit and vegetables!

Anyway, do go to my blog if you like. It goes a ways back in time and I switched to posting here in December 2005 though I joined here in 2004.

So I'm still going to be a little behind...

Oh and I'm sorry about the image dump coming up. (I do have a theory about posting in series - no need to feel obligated to look or comment) I'll try not to post more than a few a day (haha) but I had been hoarding some of them since May or June (I really hate the lengthy, redundant and tedious submission process - it should definitely have been streamlined in the V5. One should have written to some admin about that!

) and there are deadlines for those things that I don't want to miss. Yeah, and I still have to spend as much time at the beach as possible!!!

I sure hope everyone else is enjoying whatever season is prominent in your country right now, especially the temperature of war and peace.

Here even the crime rate is decreasing and no one worries about bombs. We have far too many homeless people and we live in hope that the next government will do something about it because there are already far too many private charity agencies trying to something about it and it's not enough and the gov is not using the tax money we have paid and which has been allotted for this purpose. SUX!!!! Especially in a rich city like Vancouver. We have some of the most expensive real estate in the world and are one of the safest cities in the world, yet still we live with some of the highest rates of homelessness and HIV!

I guess I'll have to breakdown and try it again but last time I couldn't import my faves into it and it drove me crazy. I have a lot of faves and I couldn't feature doing it manually. I just hate reorganizing my computer though there are so many things I could be doing. I'd rather just futz around making stuff and talking to people here and on email...no worries.

Yeah, me and Murphy. The sorry story of my life! Though I try to think positively, the circuits are so ingrained, I think I could be sabotaging myself!

I have to watch that movie "What the Bleep Do We Know?" again. It is so great!!! Have you seen it? Definitely worth a watch. Now that I have $$$, I can rent it cuz I can't find it on the net for free. Dang. Seen any good movies off the net lately?

....and yes homeless in Vancouver is quite a problem there...surprised me that there're more of them than in Seattle!!!! but at least they seem a lot friendlier and I saw one who is female!!!! O_O .....

......I guess it shows how much of selfishness in the community....not much better in any big city around the world though! Sydney also getting really depressing!!!! I think that I might be homeless myself when things're tough...
