Peace in November: Edit

Sun Nov 5, 2006, 7:44 PM
November 6, 2006

Permanent disclaimer: I'm severely behind my messages lately and I will probably always be! Yet I do love this part of dA more than anything. So if I don't always comment, I will often fave or full view whenever possible! My comments aren't always long, creative, original or thoughtful. I hope you'll take them as they are meant - heartfelt - nonetheless!!! Thanks for your patience! LZ

Hi All and welcome,

Edit: Received this article today from the Army Times (also published in the other miliary presses) stating that the generals no longer have faith in Donald Rumsfeld. It's apparently the first time in history that such an expression has been made. It's almost a form of treason! For those of you Americans [gentle reminder, I'm Canadian so I can't vote, however there are many Americans living here and many people with dual citizenship who can vote despite what your prez sez] going to vote tomorrow (I hope all will take advantage of one of your few remaining democratic powers) , please consider this new information! I hope you enjoy the stuff I posted November 5.

My listserve sent me this article which I mean to be of no offence to anyone, just something to think about. (This also applied to all the political stuff I post - don't take it personally, just think about it!)

Remember, there have always been times when women in most cultures were expected to wear something on their heads, some just threw it off at different times. Men in many cultures wear head coverings too. It's shocking how much such trivial things can take on so much meaning. Even now, think about the meaning of hats in  different countries, not necessarily the Middle East.

They'd Rather Die

It's about some Taliban forced marriages. [link] Naturally it's not the only way that women (and men) are abused in the world. It's an awful article so don't read it if you don't want to feel bad.

November is the month of peace in Canada, or so I consider it. November 11 is often termed "poppy day" in reference to WWI and the commemoration of the end of it that we've given it annually.

Now we're in a deeply hypocritical situation and more than ever, I have mixed feelings about this day. I wonder if I can bear to post more about it. However if you know any other Canadians, you may see some comments/journals about the 11th from them. You may also see them wearing little fuzzy red plastic poppies (god knows who decided they were going to look like this!)
They are supposed to represent peace and yet they are one of the things that seems to be causing worse problems in Afghanistan and the world due to the war there. Used as a much needed medicine they provide pain relief. There is no reason that Afghanistan's proposal to the major drug companies that they buy their crop was rejected, so the illegal heroine and opium trades continue. WTF!?!??

:D LZ :D

I agree with you that the poppy harvest in Afghanistan should be legalised and thus effcetively controlled. I heard a man talking about this on the CBC news channel.
